Brass Band
Soliloquy (Cornet Solo)
Grade 3 | 4 Mins
Soliloquy was written in 1987 for the young English cornet player Louise Hallett as a present for her teacher, David May. Its original version was for cornet and piano, the accompaniment being later scored for brass band (without cornets) in 1992.
Its form is fairly simple: a lyrical opening melody over pulsating quavers leads to a middle section which reaches an emotional climax before returning in varied form to close the work peacefully.
