Brass Band
A Quiet Moment
Grade 3 | 4 Mins
A Quiet Moment was written in memory of James Phillip Krofta (1953-2006). It was commissioned by his family in recognition of his love of music and dedication to teaching.
His family writes:
Throughout James’ musical career he taught, inspired and motivated thousands of students to attain exceptional levels of excellence in life as well as in music. Latterly he was the Assistant Director of Bands and the Director of Jazz Studies at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His untimely death kept him from fulfilling his dream of becoming Marquette’s next Director of Bands. He spent the majority of his thirty-year career as Director of Bands at Kettle Moraine High School.
Perhaps one of the greatest moments of his career came when he conducted Philip Sparke’s The Year of the Dragon. With that piece his Wind Symphony won the 1995 National Adjudicators Invitational in St. Louis, Missouri. Through A Quiet Moment by Philip Sparke, and through all of the students whose lives James touched, his memory lives on.
